Approaches to writing on photography

01.03.25
2pm – 5:30pm
Offset Projects Studio, New Delhi

How do we write about photography? How does writing shape our understanding of images, and how can it expand the way we engage with visual and photographic practice?

This one-day workshop offers an open-ended and conversational space for exploring different approaches to critical writing on photography. Through discussion and shared examples, participants will engage with different approaches to writing about images, examining how text can shape and expand photographic practice.

Led by artists Duncan Wooldridge and Lucy Soutter, the session will focus on writing as a process of critical engagement. Drawing from his own published works, Duncan will introduce strategies for articulating ideas around photography, reflecting on the relationship between text and image.

Participants are welcome to bring their own writing—whether a work-in-progress or an idea—to contribute to the larger discussion. The workshop fosters an informal yet focused exchange, where ideas, techniques, and critical frameworks can be explored collaboratively.
