In anticipation for the coming workshop on photo book making, get to know Valentina Abenavoli from AKINA BOOKS who will take your work through editing, ideation and conceptualizing as a book over the 6 day workshop with Offset Projects.
Italian, moved here and there, now based in Istanbul, Valentina Abenavoli works as picture editor and book designer of AKINA, an independent publishing house of photo books founded in 2012 together with Alex Bocchetto. After a degree in photography, a master in book publishing and several odd jobs, she realized that being constantly on the edge between awareness and reveries was the best way to approach photography: since then, reading and repositioning visual and mental images have been her main occupations, combined with video, sound and text.
In 2016 she published her first photo book as author titled Anaesthesia, followed by The Harvest, the second chapter of an unfinished trilogy around the subjects of empathy and evil. She participated in several group and solo exhibitions. On a side, she runs workshops on book making and works freelance as editor and book designer. In her free time she doesn’t sleep.
